Here are some example songs you can use as you begin practicing with Solfa.
You’ll find songs for each of the tonesets we introduced above as steps towards the pentatonic. Each song is shown with:
- Solfa syllables, and the Stick Notation for rhythm which we’ll introduce in Chapter 12: The Beat and Chapter 13: Rhythm
- Lyrics
- Traditional staff notation
Remember that although the staff shows a particular key, these songs can be sung with any note as the tonic, and you should choose one which makes it comfortable to sing within your range (see Chapter 4: Singing for more on that if needed).
| TIP: For practical reasons, we can include only a handful of songs for each toneset here, and ideally these would be learned by ear first rather than from written notation. While a few well-chosen songs can go a long way in learning Solfa, and what’s provided here is enough to get started with, I would highly encourage you to also check out the Additional Resources. There you will find example recordings of each of these songs, as well as a larger “songbank” you can draw from for your Solfa practice. |
